that's done, we will start working with our STC partner,
Duncan Aviation, on the first list of aircraft. "
Gogo Business Aviation and Duncan Aviation are
currently working on completing 5G upgrade STCs for
all models currently approved for Gogo's AVANCE
L5 products. That list includes some 30 models of
Bombardier Challengers/Globals, Gulfstreams, Dassault
Falcons, and Citations.
" The STC portfolio we're partnering with Duncan
Aviation on for Gogo 5G is extensive and will ensure that
we provide a significantly enhanced in-flight connectivity
experience for all passengers, " Aguirre said.
And it's not only the current owners of Gogo
AVANCE L5-equipped aircraft who will benefit from all
the advanced capabilities provided by the revolutionary
5G network. Jet Edge International, a leading business
jet management company, recently signed on to have 50
of its large-cabin business jets upgraded with Gogo's
5G-ready L5 LRUs.
In a statement announcing the deal, Jet Edge
International's chief executive officer said, " Choosing
Gogo was an easy decision because of their proven track
record of meeting their commitments and delivering
the best in-flight connectivity in the industry. After
a thorough evaluation of other in-flight connectivity
services, we chose Gogo 5G - it was the obvious choice
and we're thrilled to offer it to our discerning clients. "
On the OEM side, HondaJet has also announced
that Gogo's AVANCE L3 is now available as a line-fit
factory option with aftermarket STCs aboard the HA420
HondaJet.
AVANCE is advanced
It's safe to say that systems with the flexibility and
upgradeability demonstrated by AVANCE don't just
happen. From the minute Gogo Business Aviation's
product development and engineering teams first started
specifying its AVANCE family of products, they did so
with an eye to the future.
" The thing we want to emphasize is that AVANCE is
the platform of the future for us, " Aguirre said. " And
by platform, I mean everything will grow from it.
We've designed the hardware and software to be easily
upgradable as a way to future-proof our customers'
investments. "
Just how easy? Well, for example, in late 2020, when
the company wanted to lower the floor of its AVANCE
service area from 10,000 feet to 3,000 feet, all they had
to do was " flip a switch " at the network level.
" The network relayed the upgrade to all of the
AVANCE LRUs, and the customers enjoyed a seamless
upgrade without doing a thing, " Aguirre explained.
" Lowering the service area to 3,000 feet is a tremendous
advantage in terms of how much more time during each
flight that our customers will benefit from their Gogo
connections. "
But seamlessly expanding the coverage area is a
part of the many tricks it has put up AVANCE's highly
capable sleeve. Another recently introduced user
benefit is the company's new in-flight subscription
entertainment service called Gogo Vision 360.
According to Glenn, Gogo Vision 360 is available
for AVANCE L3, L5 and SCS systems. The new service
includes an upgraded 3D moving map, unlimited
streaming of on-demand movies, TV programming,
news, and a library of digital magazines.
" Gogo's state-of-the-art 3D moving map is delivered
through a partnership with FlightPath3D, featuring
engaging flight and travel information that's not only
interactive but can be displayed in a variety of views, "
he said. " The streaming application is also targeted to
customers who are doing a lot more livestreaming for
Zoom or Teams type meetings.
" Historically, when you wanted to make these kinds
of capability upgrades to the aircraft, you would have
to reconfigure the cabin routers or manually update
software. And that meant putting the aircraft down. Now,
all the customer has to do is call our Customer Care team,
and they can add any new capabilities over the air from
our network to the aircraft - it's all done remotely. "
Yet another example of how Gogo is simplifying the
ongoing upgrading and remote diagnostics capabilities
of its AVANCE platform is through the use of its Gogo
Cloudport connectivity device.
As Glenn explained it, Cloudport is a small, simple
edge server type device that Gogo customers install in
their hangars. While the aircraft is parked, Cloudport
wirelessly connects to the aircraft's AVANCE LRU
and then automatically downloads any new versions of
system software or IFE programming.
" Once it's downloaded to the LRU, the customer just
has to hit a couple of buttons to accept the upgrade into
their system, " he said. " It's so much easier than having
to download the information onto a USB and then
manually transfer it onto the LRU, which is how it was
done previously. "
