A NEW ERA FOR AEA
T
he success of an organization depends in
large part on the smooth transition of its
leadership and a shared vision for the future.
At our recent 65th annual AEA International Convention
& Trade Show, we witnessed the passing of the gavel
from Garry Joyce, our first chairman of the board from
outside of North America, to Bill Hanf, founder and
owner of Green Mountain Avionics. The
change in command is sure to be seamless,
from one business owner to another, and
both credit their involvement with the
AEA for their growth in this industry. The
membership and the industry are fortunate
to have such passionate and capable
stewards guiding this organization.
During Garry's tenure, the association
experienced some of its most turbulent
times. With his dedication, even though
he was half a world away, we were able to
weather the storm during the global pandemic, return to
normal and begin our strategic planning process. We are
forever grateful for his guidance, support and energy
for preparing the AEA for this new era.
Picking up right where Garry left off, Bill shares
the vision for the next generation of the AEA. As
the new chairman, Bill will oversee the execution of
the strategic plan and the work produced by our new
membership relations and workforce development
committees. Bill will also mentor our six new directors
as we transition nearly one-third of the AEA board. We
look forward to the next three years of his leadership.

beginning on page 46 - we truly are back to normal.
For the first time since 2019, we were able to stick with
our originally scheduled convention dates and, more
importantly, welcome international attendees back to
our show. To the more than 1,350 attendees, including
our exhibitors, sponsors and advertisers, we express
our sincere appreciation for making AEA
the place to be for the aircraft electronics
industry. Preparation is already underway
for our next show, April 24-27, 2023, in
Orlando, Florida.
For those who were not able to attend

the show in New Orleans this year, we
have our first complete AEA Connect
Conference schedule in two years,
including a return to our Canada and
South Pacific regions. The AEA chooses
convenient and affordable locations and
loads the two-day schedule with technical training,
regulatory insight and exhibits, plus the opportunity
to visit face to face with more than 30 OEM
representatives at each location. Tampa, Kansas City,
and Reno will host the U.S. meetings, and Munich,
Toronto, and Sunshine Coast will host our Europe,
Canada, and South Pacific meetings, respectively.
