Full steam ahead
A
s we pass the midyear mark, it seems my
work-life balance is getting back to normal
with more travel involved. While industry
conventions and trade shows got back in the saddle with
in-person events in 2021, international regulatory meetings
remained mostly virtual but are finally returning to business as
usual this year with more face-to-face gatherings. Let's dive
into the details with an update on recent and upcoming events.
The month of April wrapped up with the spring 2022
Aviation Safety InfoShare, a semiannual industry-sponsored
and FAA-facilitated event for the open, collaborative
discussion regarding aviation safety with domestic,
international and corporate operators, labor organizations,
trade associations, government organizations and major
manufacturers. InfoShare started two decades ago with
a handful of operators and now includes more than 800
aviation safety professionals. The forum enables participants
to share information about safety issues and concerns, best
practices for data analysis, successful mitigation strategies,
and the results of their studies of proactive safety programs,
including the Aviation Safety Action Program and Flight
Operations Quality Assurance. At this year's event, the
Aircraft Electronics Association participated on a panel
discussion about safety management systems for maintenance
and manufacturing.
May brought the introductory meeting of the ARAC working
group developing the proposal for the portability of repairman
certificates. We have previously briefed that this activity was
waiting for launch by the Federal Aviation Administration,

back with a vengeance.
and we received notification of its start in early May. Not only
is the AEA participating in the working group, but I will be
chairing this activity for the next two years. The first meeting
took place the last week of June at AEA headquarters. The
tasking of the repairman certificate portability working group
is to provide advice and recommendations to the ARAC, which
will then provide the recommendations to the FAA on the most
effective ways to allow a repairman certificate issued under
§ 65.101 to be more portable from one employing certificate
holder to another.
May also began the preparatory work on the fall
Maintenance Management Team meeting in São Paulo,
Brazil, hosted by the National Civil Aviation Agency of
Brazil. This is a quadrilateral agency meeting between
the four major civil aviation authorities with maintenance
arrangements within their bilateral agreements. Three times
each year, the authorities gather to discuss the challenges,
successes and opportunities for process improvements with
their maintenance agreements. At each meeting, there is
an industry day where representatives of the industry can
share their specific views. Interestingly, the industry view
