industry. AEA Wired not only covers the latest news about
the association and its members, but it also reports industry
news in a concise, user-friendly and informative e-newsletter
distributed to more than 13,000 industry professionals,
complete with the latest information on
regulatory updates, products, people and
upcoming events.
In September 2021, AEA Wired began
conducting an industry poll for its readers.
Since then, the industry poll question has been
asked in the first edition of the month with the
results published in the second edition. Make no
mistake, this industry poll is not scientific and
should not be used for research purposes. The
original intent of the poll was to actively engage
AEA members and avionics professionals with
the published content and allow them to express their opinions
on current issues; however, other industry media outlets have
surprisingly taken the poll results and reported on them at
various times as news stories. That wasn't necessarily the intent
of the industry poll, but it's nice to know others are noticing and
are interested in the survey results.
Just for fun, let's examine some of the results from the
polling questions asked in the last 10 months. Without going
into all the details, here are some of the highlights. Take them
with a grain of salt, but they do offer interesting insights from
avionics professionals.
* When avionics installers were asked what their
preferred method is to reference drawings and
installation manuals in and around an aircraft, 56.9%
said they only reference paper while 20.1% prefer a
computer or laptop.
* When companies were asked what their most

technicians later this year.
* When AEA members were asked what element of the
AEA International Convention & Trade Show provided
the most value as an avionics professional, 47.8%
said the technical training was their top choice, while
24.6% answered the new product introductions.
* With the annual inflation rate in the U.S. at 8.3%
through April, 32.4% said their business has increased
customer pricing more then 10%, while another 32.4%
has increased customer pricing 6 to 10%.

productive method of finding new employees is, 48.3%
said they post their open positions on job boards. (Hey
job-seekers, this is your hint to check out the AEA jobs
board at aea.net/jobs.)
* When avionics repair stations were asked if their
business offers discounted or free flight training as an
employee benefit, it was nearly a split response with
51.7% responding no and 48.3% yes.
* When avionics businesses were asked
what their top strategy is for navigating supply
chain constraints, 37.8% said they reschedule
customer appointments.
* In January when the industry was asked
which topic was most likely to continue
dominating the headlines at the end of 2022,
47% answered inflation.
* In February when repair stations were
asked what their current employment outlook
was, 75.5% said they are hiring technicians
now, while another 8.6% said they will need
