industry CABIN CONNECTIVITY GLOSSARY I STORY BY DALE SMITH was talking to a chief pilot at last year's NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition, and he shared an interesting story about how he recently had to charter a jet for his chief executive officer because the satcom system on their airplane was down. While that would have been a head-shaker a few years ago, the situation didn't seem too out of the ordinary today - well, until he told me that particular flight was only 90 minutes long. Sorry, but I think that's taking the whole " I must be connected " thing a bit too far. However, it does highlight the inarguable fact that, whether flying across a state or half the globe, high-speed connectivity has become an indispensable tool for pleasure and business travelers. While the unprecedented growth of this segment has been excellent news for avionics shops and MROs, rapid changes in connectivity technology and terminology can often lead to confusion for both the customer and the installer.
