BEFORE Jefferson City Flying Service jcfs.net * Jefferson City, Missouri Number of employees: 25 Installers/technicians involved in project: * * * * Type of aircraft: Cirrus SR22 What was the objective of the project? To replace aging, problematic EHSI and engine monitor system with new equipment. What date was the project started? April 7, 2022 What date was the project completed? May 27, 2022 The old panel was busy and unchangeable. Chase Ballard (avionics installer) Steven Stone (avionics installer) Waltor Naylor (mechanic/installer) Eric Shimp (avionics manager) What makes this project unique? The project is unique because there were not any flight displays with integrated engine monitor systems available until Garmin released the TXi system. The previously installed flight display is no longer manufactured, and support of existing flight displays has moved. Did you encounter any problems while working on the project, and how did you resolve them? The problems encountered were as follows: The instrument panel was replaced and supporting the extra weight of the PFD required an additional panel support rod. Mounting the magnetometer inside the composite wing required specialized fasteners and adhesive. The current sensors in the master control unit were not compatible with the Garmin EIS; external ammeter shunts had to be installed to read dual alternator loads. What did you learn from this project? We learned a lot about composite aircraft. While we have done radio and transponder installations on other Cirrus aircraft, we had never replaced an instrument panel in one. What was the customer's response? The customer was overwhelmed with the installation and the ability to display whatever he wants, wherever he wants on the PFD and MFD. Any additional comments about this project: The radio stack in this installation remained unchanged. We would have liked to change the GNS 430Ws for a GTN 650Xi, but the owner is extremely comfortable using them and they are still a capable navigator. q The new panel is clean and has the ability to place relevant information in front of the pilot.
