for flight, aviation management and
aviation maintenance.

The school's aviation maintenance training program
operates like an FBO with students learning eight
hours a day, 40 hours a week. As part of a class,
student Noah Pagan checks the flight controls during
a 100-hour inspection of a Cessna 404 Titan.
The training, which is intensive and continuous, requires
students to attend full time for 50 weeks. The next class
starts in August 2023 with a capacity of up to 25 students.
" We operate like an FBO; students learn eight hours a day,
40 hours a week, " Suraci said.
Students get hands-on training with the community
college's broad range of static aircraft. The fleet includes a
Robinson R22 helicopter, Cessna 172, 182 and 404 Titan
twin, Beechcraft T-34 Mentor, two Mooney M20Cs, Piper
PA-32-260 and a Gulfstream GIII business jet. In April, the
school added two Learjet 25D business jets.
" Our GIII has a pedigree, " Suraci said. " It served in the
U.S. presidential fleet and was used by President Ronald
Reagan and President George H.W. Bush as well as General
Norman Schwarzkopf during the first Gulf War. "
Having such a diverse fleet for maintenance training
allows students to get familiar with a wide variety of system
types, including anti-skid, APUs and air conditioning.
" Students are able to open all the panels and look at
everything, " Suraci said. " They even go into the hellhole
and see all the equipment that's back there in the tail
of the aircraft. And they learn to do proper inspections.
The students create an inspection checklist based on the
maintenance manuals, perform an inspection and manage
one correction of whatever they find. "
