A special thanks to his friends in the AEA
Looking back, it seems Conroy's Member of the Year
Award is just the completion of a circle. It actually all started
with the AEA.
" You can say that PCA got its start because of my membership
in the AEA, " he said. " I met Rick Garcia at the AEA
Convention in 1989, and we formed a friendship that ended
with him asking me to be his partner in starting Pacific Coast
Avionics.
" I have only missed two AEA Conventions since I joined
in 1985 and have never come away from an event without
learning something valuable. The friendships I've formed
over those years with other shops, suppliers and manufacturers
have been invaluable. I can't thank everyone enough for
all they've done for me over these 33 years. "
Son of a son of a pilot
While Conroy is without question a died-in-the-wool pilot,
flying isn't his only outlet. He's been playing the guitar since
high school and finds it a great way to relax.
" In my spare time, I am in a small band with two buddies, "
he said. " We play at local pubs and parties and have a
really good time with it. We call ourselves Boat Drinks and
play songs from our generation, including the Eagles, Jimmy
Buffett, and others, with an occasional new song thrown in. "
Like the great man he is, Conroy is quick to credit his wife
of 45 years, Ortensia, with keeping the Conroy clan " blue
side up " and raising their two wonderful children, Trevor
and their daughter, Holly.
" Holly is an amazing young woman; she works for
the Oregon Child Protective Services - and I couldn't be
prouder of her and what she does, " he beamed. " Our two
kids have blessed us with four grandchildren who are an
absolute joy in our lives. I firmly believe that grandkids are
our rewards for raising their parents. " q
