Oral fluid drug testing coming soon
A new final rule has been published by the U.S.
Department of Transportation in the Federal Register that
will soon give DOT-regulated employers the option to select
oral fluid drug testing. The DOT stated this change was made
to " give employers a choice that will help combat employee
cheating on urine drug tests and provide a less intrusive
means of achieving the safety goals of the program. "
When will oral fluid drug testing become available?
According to the DOT, " DOT oral fluid testing cannot
be implemented until the Department of Health and
Human Services certifies at least two laboratories (one to
serve as a primary laboratory, and a second to serve as a
split specimen laboratory). "
What can I do to prepare for this change?
To help employers that intend to add oral fluid drug
testing as an option, the DOT has published the following:

News & Regulatory Updates
CARAC updates
Transport Canada Civil Aviation has issued an update on the
CAR 521 revision providing details about the coming changes
and the reasons for the extensive period it has taken to prepare
the revision. Most of the changes have a low impact with no
substantive change to cost or efforts. But there are a few major
changes that will have some significant effects.
Design change classifications of major and minor will
be reintroduced to harmonize with the Federal Aviation
Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety
Agency. This will also provide the ability to allow a
minor change approval to be used in support of a major
modification under CAR 571. It will also address the design
approval processes that are unique to the approval of an
