instruments are all 3-ATI, and the GI 275s are 3.125 inch.
SEA's solution was to design and earn an FAA parts
manufacturer approval to produce a 3-ATI to 3.125-inch
adapter plate that simplifies the installation. The STC
allows a Garmin dealer to install the GI 275 ESI on any
aircraft listed on the company's approved model list.
It also allows for the optional interface of GPS data,
magnetic heading, and VHF navigational information
from any common sources approved for interface with the
Garmin displays. In addition, to help increase situational
awareness, the GI 275 can be optionally equipped with
Garmin's synthetic vision technology.
" It took a lot of work to shape the STCs into usable,
repeatable and sellable products, but both GI 275 STCs provide
a tremendous opportunity to the Garmin dealer network to
provide these solutions to Part 25 business jet aircraft owners, "
Gomoll continued. " Ultimately, we are helping sustain multiple
fleets of these legacy aircraft into the future.
" The obsolescence of older standby instruments is
really a secondary reason to upgrade to the GI 275. We
believe that the GI 275 ESI has enough merit on its own
to justify the upgrade of non-obsolete equipment as well.
The Garmin GI 275 ESI elevates the cockpit. Display
clarity, brightness, data presentation, and data accuracy
are all leveled up massively with the GI 275 compared to
legacy standby instruments. "
Universally hooked on Hawkers
SEA has also been busy with a major STC program for
the venerable Hawker family of business jets.
" Hawkers have gone a long time without any cockpit
love, " Gomoll said. " Over the decades, there have been a
handful of attempts to launch new EFIS upgrade programs
on the Hawker 800 series aircraft. Although some STCs
were finished, the programs never really took off. Now
those programs are either dead or simply too irrelevant.
" After spending some time looking at the Universal
Avionics InSight flight deck, we determined that it was
time to bring the latest generation EFIS to the Hawker
800-series. Our new Hawker EFIS STC will allow Hawker
800A, B, and XP-models with Collins EFIS 85/86,
FCS-80, and APS-85 autopilots, as well as Honeywell
SPC-8000 avionics, to be upgraded to the new Universal
InSight Integrated Flight Deck. "
When announcing the program, Marc Bouliane, vice
president of business development, marketing and services
at Universal Avionics, stated that many required STCs for
the upgrades are already available for installation.

flight crew can now take advantage of an intuitive humanmachine
interface with synthetic vision and advanced
mapping capabilities, embedded electronic charts, radio

reduces workload by offering a tight integration with
Universal's FMS and UniLink data communication for
CPDLC, and enables advanced maintenance capabilities
with its unique remote diagnostic capability. "
If you need it, SEA can create it
It's clear the multi-talented teams at Southeast
Aerospace are well-versed in meeting all the challenges
faced when jumping through the various FAA " hoops "
to earn an STC. And that's good news for anyone in the
avionics business.
" We support our customers with the required
documentation and the parts they need, " Hernandez said.
" It saves them time and can increase their overall revenue.
Our STCs enable other avionics shops the ability to offer
upgrades that would not be otherwise feasible.
" For our in-house projects, our machine shop also provides
a unique opportunity in the marketplace, as we can build
components that most avionics shops can't. That helps us
reduce downtime and get the aircraft back in the air sooner. "
While SEA's list of STCs is quite extensive, the
company doesn't see any end to its customers' needs to
continually upgrade the world's fleet of private, business
and special-mission airplanes and helicopters.
" While we don't have anything ready to announce
at this time, we have several new STC programs in the
works, and you can expect more program announcements
from SEA very soon, " Gomoll said. " We are always
working with our customers to identify issues and provide
cost-effective solutions to their needs. " q
