ach year at the Aircraft Electronics Association
International Convention & Trade Show, one
of the opening day's events is the New Product
Introductions, a series of presentations by avionics
manufacturers, service providers, support organizations
and many others, detailing what's new in the avionics
industry's marketplace from the participating companies.
Over the years, it's evolved into a rapid-fire series of
relatively short - about four minutes - and detailed
product and service announcements, plus updates on
existing, previously announced projects. It's streamed
on the internet as it happens by Aero-News Network,
covered by several other major aviation media outlets,
and serves as a resource for industry competitors. It's a
much-discussed focus for anyone checking the industry's
pulse, whether from around the world or on the trade
show's exhibit floor.
On April 24 in Orlando, Florida, the 2023 edition
of AEA's New Product Introductions featured 33
companies from around the world, updating their peers
on the projects and breakthroughs they've worked on
since last year. Some consisted of slick, high-quality
videos; some merely featured a company's leadership
speaking to attendees from a podium in front of a largescreen
PowerPoint slide. All 33 had something new,
something of interest to the audience, and something
of value to people in the industry or those shopping for
the next big thing they'll want in their aircraft.
As usual, this year's New Product Introductions
event ran the gamut of products and services, making
it impossible to single out one presentation or industry
segment for special recognition from among the 33
companies participating. On one hand, only time will
tell whether the new product or service will make an
impact in the marketplace. On another, one company's
latest widget may not target your needs, but may hit the
bull's-eye for someone else. On a third hand, all major
categories of avionics, support and services of interest
to aircraft operators and suppliers were represented,
including integrated flight decks, airborne connectivity,
in-flight entertainment and cabin management, specialmission
configurations, high-tech, automated test
equipment and related aircraft components. How would
one choose from among these different offerings?

detailed summary of each company's presentation and
the latest news about their endeavors, a road map of
what you can expect from the industry throughout the

AeroLEDs
AeroLEDs got its start in 2007,
leveraging the benefits of lightemitting
diodes and adapting the
then-new technology to aerospace
applications. One of an LED's
major benefits is its low power
consumption when compared to
" legacy " incandescent lighting, plus
longevity, both of which are important
to the aviation industry. Today, the
Idaho-based company offers a wide range of lighting
products with applications ranging from position lights
and anti-collision beacons to landing and taxi lights.
The company's newest product is its SunSpot 36-4000
