we know the GPS receiver can be tiny. The small size of
GPS allows for a variety of configurations on aircraft. The
GPS can stand alone, be included as part of a nav/comm,
FMS, and even as part of an air data heading reference
system, or ADHRS.
For approach procedures and for ADS-B, the GPS
alone is not accurate enough. There are two types of
augmentation systems used in aviation to increase the
accuracy of the system. In both systems, a receiver on
the ground at a known, surveyed location monitors the
difference between the GPS navigation solution and the
receiver's actual location. Information about the difference
is then broadcast to the user.

stations send correction information to a VHF data
broadcast transmitter located on or near the airport. The
