We aim to start with workshops on Sunday and Monday, the
plenary session and meetings on Tuesday, sessions around
our theme "The Role of Natural History Collections in Global
Challenges" Wednesday through Friday, and fieldtrips on Saturday. The plenary session will take place in the magnificent
McEwan Hall (the graduation hall of the University of Edinburgh) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McEwan_Hall. Other
themed sessions will also take place there and in the adjacent
Appleton towers. Both buildings are a short (5 minute) walk
to the National Museums Scotland.

Events

Our planned events include an icebreaker reception at the
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (with dancing included, we
hope), a Ceilidh in The Hub https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
The_Hub,_Edinburgh, gala dinner in the grand gallery of the
museum, and a pub quiz.

Field Trips

Welcome

National Museums Scotland and the Royal Botanic Garden
Edinburgh are delighted to welcome you to the first ever
combined annual meeting of SPNHC and ICOM NATHIST.
ICOM NATHIST is the Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History of the International Council of Museums https://icomnathist.wordpress.com/about/ and this group
has many goals in common with SPNHC, so this conference

Field trips are still in the early planning stages but we hope
to include an Outlander themed trip, a walking tour around
Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags (good for anyone with a
love of Geology and Zoology), Roslyn Chapel (of Knights
Templar and holy grail fame), a whisky distillery, and a boat
trip on the Firth of Forth.

Accommodation

There is plenty of accommodation around Edinburgh, and
attendees will be able to book a range of accommodation at
