serving institutions who are engaged
with or are interested in engaging with
natural history collections. We also offered
two free, online courses: Strategic
Planning for Biodiversity Collections,
and Public Participation in Digitization
of Biodiversity Collections. Our annual
Strategic Planning for Herbaria course
will be offered again this spring, co-hosted by the Society of
Herbarium Curators.
iDigBio is particularly pleased to welcome three new staff
members: Randy Fisher and Greg Post in IT roles, and
Lauren Cohen as our new Workforce Development Manager.
Lauren is leading the establishment of formal professional development
opportunities through our Digitization Academy,
so keep an eye out for announcements in NHCOLL-L from
her about upcoming Digitization Academy courses.
Looking ahead, iDigBio will be offering paid summer internships
for undergraduate students to gain work experience in
collections. More information is available here, and applications
are due March 11. The spring WeDigBio event will take
place April 7-10, 2022, in conjunction with Global Citizen
Science Month. All collections are welcome to participate.
iDigBio is also excited to be hosting the sixth annual digital
data conference, Digital data 2022: Enhancing & advancing
the quality of digitized data with The Field Museum, virtually,
May 23-25. Registration is currently open, and abstract
submissions are due March 16. In June, you will see iDigBio
at SPNHC 2022 in Edinburgh! We are partnering with the
Best Practices Committee to organize a SPNHC Wiki Edit-athon,
with Jason Best to showcase technical resources in the
SPNHC Demo Camp, with the Education Committee for the
second ever Natural History Education DemoCamp, and with
the Biodiversity Crisis Committee to host a symposium.
As a reminder, SPNHC members are encouraged to join us
for any of our ongoing online activities, including the Symbiota
Support Group and Paleo Digitization Happy Hour.
iDigBio is delighted to serve the collections community, and
we hope to see you soon, virtually or maybe even in person!
Respectfully submitted,

Managers of Australasian Herbarium
Collections - Councils of Heads of Australasian
Herbaria
The Managers of Australasian Herbarium
Collections (MAHC) held their online
annual business meeting over three
days during October. Discussions and
workshops around sensitive and cultural
data and curation issues will be held to
assist in the development of standards
for the Australasian region. MAHC
was joined by members of the Natural
History Collections Network, established after the SPNHCTDWG
2018 meeting in Dunedin, New Zealand, and we look
forward to future discussions with non-herbarium botanical
collections professionals about similar collections challenges
in the southern hemisphere in 2022. Siobhan Leachman
