and AIBS Representative Reports.
Breda Zimkus (2020-2022)
I have been serving on the Best Practices Committee, the
Collection Theft and Security Monitoring Committee, the
Publications Committee (Technical Leaflets Editor), and the
Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Committee.
One of my main projects as Member-at-Large over the past
year has been collaborating on the creation of the SPNHC
Collection Theft and Security Monitoring Toolkit, which is
available on the SPNHC wiki: https://spnhc.biowikifarm.net/
wiki/Collection_Theft_and_Security_Monitoring. This resource
provides information about measures that would prevent
or deter collection theft, communications channels that
could be used to alert the collections community of thefts,
and methods to monitor for the recovery of lost specimens.
Respectfully submitted, Breda Zimkus

Randy Singer (2020-2023)
Meghann Toner (2021-2024)
Since my last newsletter update, I have
continued to help lay the groundwork
for the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and
Access Committee (IDEA). In November,
Anna Monfils, Vanessa Delnavaz,
and I attended the 2021 American
Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS)
Council Meeting. This year the AIBS
Council Meeting was expanded, with
funding from the National Science Foundation's LEAPS
program, to include a two-day workshop about " Enabling
Scientific Societies to Support Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable,
and Accepting (IDEA) Scientific Environments. " There were
representatives from various societies across the biological
fields. The first day of the workshop included various speakers
talking about their experience in increasing diversity. On
the second day, we teamed up into groups to discuss an action
plan around a specific issue relative to increasing diversity.
Vanessa Delnavaz (2021-2024)
Much of my work as Member-at-Large
has been in my role as co-chair of the
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access
(IDEA) Committee. The Inclusion
Statement we created in the beginning
of 2021 is now available on the SPNHC
website at https://spnhc.org/spnhcinclusion-statement/.
I have also been in
contact with the Local Organizing Committee
for the 2022 SPNHC meeting to review their Accessibility
and Inclusivity Statement and the Code of Conduct.
Anna Monfils, Meghann Toner, and I attended the American
Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) workshop " Enabling
Scientific Societies to Support Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable,
and Accepting Scientific Environments. " I look forward to
setting priorities for the IDEA Committee for this upcoming
year.
Respectfully submitted, Vanessa Delnavaz
It was fantastic to see what other societies are doing to bring
diversity to the biological fields and build contacts. Looking
forward to spring, I will continue to support the SPNHC
IDEA meetings and society as we move toward our annual
conference.
Respectfully submitted, Meghann Toner
