2021 SPNHC Travel Grant Awards

Subcommittee
This year, 2021, was a rousing success. We made significant
adaptations to the program and awards due to the conference
being virtual again this year, such as:
* Awardees were not required to present a paper or poster
as they had in the past.
* Recipients were required to contribute to SPNHC in
some manner. Ways to contribute included, but were not
limited to:
-- Contributing a session/workshop review or report
(e.g., a description of a collections management/conservation
project or a description of your research) to the
SPNHC newsletter.
-- Submitting an article for publication in Collections
Forum.
-- Submitting a virtual collections tour.
-- Having been accepted to present a paper or poster
at this year's joint AIC/SPNHC 2021 virtual conference.
There was a total of twelve (12) applicants. We awarded
eleven (11) Fitzgerald grants and one (1) Christine Allen
grant. It was exciting to receive nine (9) international applications,
including several underrepresented countries: Australia,
Colombia, Madagascar, Mexico, and Uruguay, and three
(3) from the US: Colorado, Florida, and Wyoming.
Future plans include continued fundraising for future meetings
and building the mentor pool.
My thanks to the many SPNHC members and others who
helped with this committee: Jeff Stephenson, Nick Drew,
Mariana Di Giacomo, Meghann Toner, Julian Carter, Theresa
Reilly, and Ruth Seyler, Meetings & Advocacy Director,
American Institute for Conservation. Many thanks go to AIC
for donating free conference registration to the recipients.
