This is a follow-up to previous research that showed large defoliation losses at R-1 and R-3. A maturity group MG 3.8 soybean variety was grown at the Purdue research farm just west of Lafayette. Defoliation treatments were applied at R-4 and R-5 growth stages with defoliation levels of 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent. The losses at the R-4 stage were higher than current NCIS charts suggest, while the losses at the R-5 stage of development were the same as those shown in current charts (Table 10).
