Service. The Academy is a training program
where new and beginning socially disadvantaged
farmers receive technical training by attending
workshops and field days on a monthly basis for
a year. Dr. Laurence Crane, NCIS, presented an
overview of the crop insurance plans available in
Arkansas, reviewed the features of these plans,
and explained how they help farmers manage
risk. He also discussed the process of applying for
insurance and how producers can locate an agent
to assist with their questions.
Oklahoma Small Farms
Conference
NCIS participated in the 22nd Oklahoma
Small Farms Conference, hosted by the Oklahoma
Black Historical Research Project, Inc. &
Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts.
The conference titled: " Equality and Fairness, "
was held virtually. Several USDA agencies
(NASS, FSA, RD, NRCS, APHIS) participated, as
well as the Oklahoma City RMA Regional Office.
Dr. Laurence Crane provided information about
using crop insurance to help manage risk and
protect revenue to the farmers and professionals
in attendance.
Rural Coalition 43rd
Winter Forum
NCIS participated in the Rural Coalition's
43rd Winter Forum in Washington, D.C. Dr.
Laurence Crane participated in round table discussions
on risk management and the use of crop
insurance in managing risk. He discussed the important
role the private industry plays in delivering
crop insurance and NCIS' activities working
with the 1890 land-grant universities and community-based
organizations (CBO) to help limited
resource farmers make informed risk management
decisions. The Rural Coalition is an alliance
of CBOs, farmers, farmworkers, indigenous, and
migrant people working together toward a society
that values unity, hope, people, and the land.
CONCLUSION
NCIS looks forward to providing excellent
service to its members and the entire crop insurance
industry in 2022. The plan for this year is to
provide and attend more in-person events for and
on behalf of the industry. However, we will remain
flexible should something happen that prevents us
from doing so. But whatever comes our way, we
will continue to work hard to provide the technical
expertise for our members to support the risk management
needs of the American farm community.
