ahead to 2023 with the end of La Nina's three-year
presence and potential weather impacts that could
include the return of drought across parts of the
northern Plains this summer.
Stephen Frerichs, Rain and Hail consultant,
provided an " Update from the Hill " focusing on
how the mid-term election impacted the House
and Senate Agriculture Committee. With the
upcoming Farm Bill, Frerichs emphasized farm
groups were quite positive about crop insurance

Marty Tranbarger and Ben Marcy, RMA,
provided information on the Good Farming
Practices Standards Handbook, 2022 Program
Performance Assessment Plan Results, and
Double Crop and Relay Cropping.
NCIS staff Don Hutsell, Loretta Sobba, James
Houx, Mark Zarnstorff, Ashleigh Russell, Chris
Fisher, and Lynnette Dillon presented updates to
the 2023 Prevented Planting Standards Handbook
and Loss Adjustment Manual, explained changes
to Crop-Hail and Federal loss Handbooks,
addressed Crop Adjuster Proficiency Program
(CAPP) and licensing changes, and reviewed preliminary
agronomic research data.
Survey results from the conference indicated
participants enjoyed the special guest speakers
and the information presented. Thank you to all

speakers who prepared and presented on these
essential topics.
