CropInsuranceTODAY Leadership of NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Committees By Mollie Dvorak, NCIS The NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Committees are an integral part of the crop insurance industry. Each committee assembles in order to discuss regional issues and vote on recommended changes. Fundamental to the process that assures continued improvement of the Government and Industry’s procedures and practices, their participation is vital. Ensuring that the committees understand their role, function properly, and effectively accomplish their responsibilities, the group-elected chairperson from each committee attends the annual NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Chairperson Training event. The primary objective of the session is to help the chairperson succeed by preparing them for their official responsibilities. Specific instruction is provided on: • Anti-trust considerations • NCIS Regional/State Bylaws • Ensuring program integrity • Preparing recommendations for program improvements • Planning and conducting effective meetings and loss school activities • Media Training Participation and discussion among chairpersons and NCIS associates is essential to the future success of the committees. Drought was the biggest topic of discussion as each Chairperson shared details relating to the outcome of 2012 issues and the outlook of 2013. The participants enjoyed learning about the issues of other regions and many made new connections based on regional likenesses. 24 MAY2013 (left to right): Kenny Shock, Dan Bauer, Billy Volt (Vice Chairman, East Committee), Ed Gribben, Steve Fortenberry (Vice Chairman, Southwest Committee), Kurt Laubach, Cheryl RichmondWitwer, George Swaney, Andy Stanley, Spencar Diedrich, Bruce Kirkendall, Bruce VanLoenen, Zach Alexander (Vice Chairman, Kentucky/Tenneessee Committee), and Jeff Dunlap The elected chairperson of an NCIS Regional/State Crop Insurance Committee knows the expectations and responsibilities are great.
