(ABA), Leffingwell also went on to become Director,
Secretary-Treasurer, and eventually ABA President.
He served as the ASA's first Speaker of the House of
Delegates from 1953-60, until he became PresidentElect. From 1962-63, Leffingwell served as ASA
President.

consistently sought, as he embodied integrity
and professionalism. He displayed exceptional
preparation, listened before speaking, artfully kept
meetings on track, and achieved harmony with

and routinely emphasized others' successes over his

Forrest Leffingwell passed away during the October
1969 ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, just two
days before he was to receive the ASA Distinguished

It is with extreme sorrow and with feelings of
great personal loss that I announce to this house
the death of Dr. Forrest E. Leffingwell. ... Dr.
Leffingwell-student, physician and educator-
was loved by all who knew him and recognized
as a true and honorable gentleman. During
his life he was granted the great privilege of
guiding the destiny and fortunes of his chosen
profession. ...[H]is true memorial will be the
indelible imprint that he, by his devotion,
has made upon the practice of medicine. Mr.
Speaker, members of the House of Delegates, we
who knew him well all recognized and respected
Dr. Leffingwell's deep religious convictions
and devotion. May I humbly and respectfully
suggest that this House of Delegates stand in
silent tribute to his memory. 6
