COVID Resources Webpage
In response to the demands placed on
anesthesiologists and both academic and private
practice groups, CSA leaders established a task
force of communications and practice management
committee members to establish and curate a web
page specifically dedicated to sharing up to the minute
resources for CSA members to serve their patients,
manage their practices and care for their families
during the initial impacts of the COVID pandemic.
2021
Digital Advertising Campaign
After years of discussion, the CSA Board of Directors
authorized a contract to KP Public Affairs to design and
implement a digital advertising campaign to promote
the value of physician led anesthesia care to the
public, policymakers, and health care administrators.
After positive results that have outperformed similar
healthcare related campaigns the CSA Board of Directors
and the House of Delegates reauthorized the campaign
for 2022 and 2023.
JEDI Committee
In the wake of the social unrest that followed the
death of George Floyd, the CSA House of Delegates
established the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
(JEDI) Committee as a standing committee to champion
diversity equity and inclusion efforts to benefit CSA,
individual members, practice groups and their patients
and communities they serve. The JEDI Committee is
chaired by Odie Ehie, MD, FASA.
Truth In Advertising (TIA) Toolkit
In response to concerns expressed by members of the
House of delegates regarding increasing instances of
Medical Title Misappropriation, the Practice Management
Committee, led by committee chair Dr. Christopher Tirce
and vice chair, Todd Primack, DO, FASA, developed and
distributed a tool kit to assist individual members and
practice groups to ensure their hospitals and practice
settings followed current laws concerning badging,
professional representation, and advertising.
Leadership Development Program
Under the leadership of CSA President Ron Pearl, MD,
PhD, FASA, and Asst. Treasurer Phillip Richardson,
MD, MBA, FASA, CSA has partnered with the Office of
Executive Education at top-ranked UCI Paul Merage
School of Business to offer the prestigious Certificate
in Leadership for Healthcare Management (CLHM)
program. The nine-month program, which includes
three in person sessions and six online sessions,
provides participants with practical information from
industry leaders and better prepare CSA physician
leaders to drive change in their practice groups,
hospitals and/or health systems.
2022
Committee on Women in Anesthesia
At its June meeting, the CSA House of Delegates
established the Committee on Women in Anesthesia as
a standing committee, chaired by Sydney Thomson, MD,
FASA.
Early Career Membership
The CSA House of Delegates authorized a three-year
membership targeted to early career professionals,
with a discounted price and a set of member benefits
geared specifically toward younger physicians just out
of residency. The offering, which mirrors an early career
membership by the ASA, is intended to encourage
graduating residents to look to CSA and ASA as their
primary professional homes and join as regular, active
members after the three-year special membership.
2023
CSA 75th Anniversary Jubilee
2023 will mark CSA's 75th Anniversary and will provide
CSA leaders and members with the opportunity to
celebrate CSA's many achievements since its founding
in 1948. The CSA House of Delegates approved a
one-time expenditure that will fund the development of
video content showcasing individual CSA leaders and
their achievements, special content within CSA's annual
publication Vital Times and a very special All Member
Reception at the ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco in
October, that will showcase all of CSA's part presidents.
