models within RUHS residencies, and prepares them to
enter medical fields. The program strives to inspire these
young students' development as future members of the
medical field, and motivates Riverside County high school
students to attend top universities across the country. It is
a sterling example of what can be achieved for supporting
diversity equity and inclusion through community
partnership programs.
RUHS Airway Workshop 2022
where we trained more than a hundred participants
including medical students, residents, fellows, emergency
medical personnel, respiratory therapists, physician
assistants, and nurse practitioners from eleven
institutions on managing airway challenges. In addition
to didactics and basic airway skills, our attendees learned
cricothyrotomy, tracheostomy, retrograde wire intubation,
and jet ventilation on porcine tracheas.

We are thrilled to have expanded our multi-boarded
academic faculty roster and added a new Director of
Research. We continue to expand our simulation sessions
alongside the operating room staff and trauma teams.
Focusing on topics like massive hemorrhage, local
anesthetic toxicity, operating room fires, and malignant
hyperthermia, our staff were made more confident in
managing rare clinical catastrophes. We added a summer
research rotation for our local UCR undergraduate and
medical students that was a huge success. In addition
to visiting local biomedical engineering laboratories with
our residents and rotating medical students, we also
expanded our armamentarium and research with cuttingedge
anesthesiology devices. Furthermore, we were
able to host multiple interdepartmental Grand Rounds
lectures with internationally recognized speakers on
topics that included Opioid Free Anesthesia by Jan Mulier,
MD, PhD, from Ghent, Belgium, Difficult Airway Algorithm
Updates by William Rosenblatt, MD, from Yale University,
and Pandemic Preparedness by Anjan Trikha, MD, Chair,
Pandemic Preparedness Council of the Government
of India and Professor at UCSF. We hosted POCUS
workshops for departments across campus and hosted
multiple POCUS lecturers during Grand Rounds. We held
mock OSCE sessions, weekly mock oral boards sessions,
and a research workshop. Our residents submitted
presentations at WARC, the Riverside County Research
Symposium, and at the ASA 2022 Annual Meeting.

We continue to expand our educational footprint. Our
department hosted the 2022 RUHS Airway Workshop
Our Annual Residency Retreat at Omni Rancho Las
Palmas in Rancho Mirage, CA, was a remarkable event.
Attendings and residents, with family, gathered at the
beautiful resort to complete a wellness inventory, learn
