The anesthesiology residency at Stanford has multiple programs, as per the diagram. Some of the residency education highlights at Stanford are below. Stanford Clinical Base Year in Surgery Prior to the Anesthesiology Residency More and more applicants to anesthesiology residency have a preference for a 4-year training program in anesthesiology. To meet this need we have partnered with Stanford general surgery to offer an affiliated internship designed to have interns: * Learn about surgical diseases, and develop knowledge and experience in the evaluation and management of surgical patients and their medical conditions. * Refine procedural skills for the ward, ICU, and OR. * Become comfortable working in the adult and pediatric hospitals including the EMR to facilitate the transition to the CA-1 year. * Work with residents and faculty in surgery and other specialties that the intern will later work with in the OR and other settings like the ICU. Grand Rounds The overarching goal of the new Grand Rounds is to bring the department together for an educational experience relevant to all members. Sheela Pai-Cole, MD, is the Grand Rounds course director and is creating a program that is a central part of the life of the department, and * Interact with other Stanford anesthesia interns (for example, those doing the medicine-based internship or the pediatrics internship before starting the anesthesiology residency).
