The Residency Reviews are still one of my favorite
sections. It is wonderful to see how programs adapted
to all the changes brought about by the COVID
pandemic and how they have continued to evolve.
Last year Anesthesiology was one of the top programs
in the match in 2022 with 99.9% of PGY1 positions
filled in the match and 100% of combined programs
(Medicine-anesthesiology, pediatrics-anesthesiology,
emergency medicine-anesthesiology) filling. 100% of
all CA-1 (PGY2) positions were also filled. That is truly
remarkable; anesthesiology as a field is attracting the
best of the best and we know that California has some
of the top programs in the country. The future is indeed
bright for our specialty.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) has grown to include
the University of California at Davis (UCD), which is
highlighted in this issue of Vital Times. There are
now three institutions committed to helping with
high school science curriculums and expanding the
influence and reach of the CSA, anesthesiologists and
their home institutions (UCLA, Stanford and UCD).
The former Taskforce on Women (WTF) was approved
as a new Committee on Women in Anesthesiology,
and the group has been prolific in its efforts in DEI and
issues of concern to women in particular, but often
to men as well. Members of the CSA's Committee on
Women in Anesthesiology authored or co-authored
several of the resolutions presented and passed at
Virtual PLTW demonstration, Stanford ( clockwise from top Misty

the ASA House of Delegates and the Committee
sponsored a DEI Panel at the CSA Annual Meeting.
The CSA Annual Meeting in beautiful San Diego was
wonderful, with great guest speakers and a fantastic
US POCUS workshop. The CSA Certificate in Healthcare
Leadership is on its 2nd year. There is a new
membership category in conjunction with the ASA for
young physicians designed to help young members join
and get involved with this remarkable organization.
