lorious Spring weather,
interrupted by occasional
light showers and splendid
rainbows, welcomed attendees of Carmel
Doll Shop's first in a series of "Lunch,
Listen and Learn" events. The premier
event, billed as "Tea With Victoria,"
featured an exceptional French fashion
doll, her extraordinary trousseau and
her remarkable story, presented by
author, historian and award-winning doll
costumer, Denise Buese.
The Victorian home-studded
town of Pacific Grove (also known as
Peeking out from the curtains of the Opera House, beautiful fashion dolls look on with
approval as the Carmel Doll Shop awaits the arrival of the "Tea With Victoria" guests.
A large display case showed off Victoria and her belongings in grand style.

Shop. Situated on the rocky coast of
the Central Coast region of California
and upon scenic Monterey Bay, Pacific
Grove was a destination that seemed
tailor-made for doll collectors last
March 1 and 2.
Due to the popularity of this
function, it was necessary to stretch a
planned one-day event into two days,
in order to accommodate all those
wishing to participate. On each day, the
respective attendees were welcomed
to a luncheon tea complete with
warm scones and jam, traditional tea
sandwiches, delicious desserts and, of
course, the Carmel Doll Shop's wellknown white glove treatment.
Victoria, a lovely Clément fashion
doll, held court in a large display case
along with her trunk, her ten gorgeous
and remarkably well-preserved 1870s
costumes, and all the accessories a
fashionable doll could want. Following
lunch, Denise Buese presented her
memorable program, which wove the
extraordinary true story of this doll
and her young owner through their
