The new models offer a choice of two or four AWG channels
combined with the same number of digitizer channels. The
AWG channels can generate almost any waveshape thanks to
their use of the latest, high resolution, 16-bit digital to analog
converters (DAC).
For signal acquisition, users can select from models that
provide 16-bit resolution and sampling rates of 180 or 250
MS/s or 14-bit resolution and sampling rates of 400 or 500
MS/s. Each channel is fully programmable with six adjustable
input ranges, from ±200 mV to ±10 V full scale, signal offset
and selectable input impedance of 50 Ohm or 1 MegOhm.
With their ability to create and acquire electronic signals at

Multi-Axis Motion for Vacuum
Applications
Vacuum chambers are
limited in volume, and
products that go inside
are better when they are
smaller. PI offers 6-axis
precision motion systems,
based on parallel
kinematics. These hexapod
positioners are more compact
than conventional multi-axis stages and provide more
versatility at the same time, ideal for vacuum based high precision
motion and alignment tasks with optics, fibers, and
semiconductors. A hexapod offers motion in 6 degrees of freedom
(XYZ, Pitch, Roll, Yaw).
With the addition of more standard, vacuum compatible
hexapods, the load range of 5 to 80 kg is covered; custom
models for loads up to 1 ton have been designed as well. The
hexapods provide very high resolution and repeatability to 0.1
μm and 2 μrad, respectively.

Robert Goldberg (r.goldberg@ieee.org) has over 35 years' experience
with over 25 years in management of the design and
development of hardware and software for a broad range of
military electronic products involving digital, RF/Microwave,
electro-optical and electromechanical systems. He is retired
from ITT Aerospace Communications Division in Clifton, NJ,
where he was responsible for Sensor Communication programs
utilizing the application of sensor radios developed by
ITT as a result of work with DARPA on the Small Unit Operations
Situation Awareness System (SUOSAS). Prior to joining
ITT, he held positions in systems test and systems engineering
with Northrop Grumman in programs related to RF and
IR electronic warfare systems. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and
is currently chairman of the Fellows Evaluation Committee of
the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.
