The main characteristics of each component of See Far
smart glasses, along with the functionalities that each one enables,
are presented in the following sections.
Scene and Depth Camera
This sensor provides stereoscopic view, managed by integrating
a high definition RGB camera and a depth (IR)
camera. For this purpose, the Intel® RealSense™ D435 has
been selected. The RGB camera has a 1920 × 1080 resolution
and a 30 fps frame rate, while the depth camera resolution is

1280 × 720, and its frame rate can reach 90 fps. The recorded
images can then be magnified and/or filtered for enhancing
the user's vision. Object detection and color identification
can also be performed, as well as identification of close hazards
such as obstacles and indoor navigation using the depth
camera [6],[7].
Gaze Tracking Cameras
Gaze tracking systems combine multiple cameras and dedicated
software for detecting pupil movement. They can collect
useful information such as the way the user perceives stimuli
from the environment, such as the points on which he/she focuses
while working, while browsing a document or even a
supermarket shelf, and the way he/she reacts to them. The See
Far solution can estimate the user's emotional arousal and provide
recommendations based on the user's emotional status,
helping him/her remain calm during work and avoid stressful
situations. Additionally, knowledge of where the person is
looking enhances the person's reading ability by zooming and
targeting specific areas of the text.
The chosen device, called Pupil Core, consists of two eye
cameras placed at specific distances from the eyes. Gaze and
pupil size data that are automatically estimated by the device
at 243 Hz are then post-processed and used for the extraction
of eye and gaze-related features utilized for the development
of machine learning models for the estimation of emotional
arousal and cognitive workload levels.
Augmented Reality Lenses
AR lenses are used in smart glasses' augmented reality applications
for projecting objects to the person wearing them while
remaining transparent so that the person can also see through
