no grandkids are on the way . . . yet! Alyssa is in
her freshman year at BYU, majoring in microbiology.
Hannah is our youngest and is a freshman
in high school.
PT: In your early practice years, were there any
mentors who helped you get going?
TM: My brother, Rob, was my greatest mentor. In
our partnership, if we couldn't agree on something,
our dad cast the tie-breaking vote and
could come up with his own solution. We never
wanted it to come to that, so we always managed
to find a compromise.
PT: Are you involved in other healthcare associations?
TM:
I work on the cleft lip and palate team for our
region. My nephew has a bilateral cleft lip and
palate, so this is one of my passions!
PT: Did you take the ABO examination?
TM: I completed my board certification in 2012
and look forward to renewing my certification
next year.
PT: Have you done any teaching, or are there
other activities you spend time with?
TM: I guest lecture in our local high school health
professions class.
PT: Have you or your spouse been involved in civic
or volunteer work?
TM: I am currently on the YMCA Board in our area,
along with volunteering with my church. I have
helped run some school levy campaigns in our
area. Giving back to my community has enriched
my life greatly.
PT: Tell us about your involvement in the PCSO.
TM: The PCSO is my favorite professional
meeting. I look forward to returning to faceto-face
meetings soon! When I first graduated,
I would attend the PCSO with my brother. He
was working in leadership positions for the
PCSO. For two years, I would tag along with
him to leadership receptions because there was
free food! After two years of eating free food, I
felt a little guilty and that maybe I should help
out somehow. I approached the then Executive
Director Phil Rollins, who put me on the Budget
and Finance Committee. That gave me a flavor
for volunteering in our professional organization.
Some of my best professional friendships
have come from volunteering in the PCSO. I
have always felt like I learned more and got
