Dr. George Kaprelian:
July 13, 1934-November 8, 2021
George Kaprelian was born in Racine, Wisconsin,
to Harry and Margaret Jollatian Kaprelian, immigrants
who survived the Armenian Holocaust of
1915. He was one of six children. He graduated
from Horlick High School in Racine and went on
to The University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He
received his DDS degree in 1959 from Marquette
University School of Dentistry; after which he
served in the U.S. Army in Alaska as a dental
officer. In 1964, he received his MS degree in
orthodontics from University of Tennessee and
became board certified by the American Board of
Orthodontics.
George moved to Sunnyvale, California with his
family where he has been practicing orthodontics
for 50 years; during the last 31 years, he worked
with his son, Dr. Brad Kaprelian.
When young, he enjoyed football and baseball
and followed the San Francisco 49ers, but was a
diehard Green Bay Packers fan.
Professionally, he was the past president of both
the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists and the
Edward H. Angle Society of Northern California.
He was a member of the ADA, CDA, SCCDS and
the Sunnyvale Rotary Club. He inspired his son,
Brad Kaprelian, and his daughter-in-law, Lindi
Henell, as well as former employees and patients
to go into the dental field. He holds three U.S. patents
for bracket placement instrument, facebow
swivel, and base plates for dental articulators.
George Kaprelian was a good and kind man who
loved his family, cared for his patients, and loved
his profession as an orthodontist. His is survived
by his wife of 62 years, Mickey, sons Dr. Brad Kaprelian
and Ty, daughter-in-law, Dr. Lindi Henell,
and two grandchildren: Erin and J.T. Kaprelian. He
will forever be missed.
