Alaska
The Alaska State Society of Orthodontists
held our annual continuing
education and business meeting
earlier this year in Anchorage. The
meeting was a great opportunity to get together with
colleagues and to get some in-person continuing
education. We also held our annual business meeting
and voted to accept new bylaws.
Component leadership is beginning the process of
planning for next spring's annual meeting that will
also be held in Anchorage.

Alberta
Alberta Dental Association and College
is now split into two entities, the
Alberta Dental Association (ADA) and
the College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta
(CDSA), to serve the profession more effectively
and independently.
The Alberta Society of Orthodontists (ASO) has shown
that it is in support of and on the same page as the
Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO) by contacting
the Federal Minister of Health regarding the
National Dental Plan. The CAO has been in discussions
with the CDA on the issue and felt that the orthodontic
perspective was not yet considered. The CAO
executives will continue to work on forming a federal
perspective on this issue on behalf of the CAO and all
provincial societies.

Arizona
The Arizona State Orthodontic
Association (ASOA) annual meeting
is finalized for December 5, 2022.
Our guest lecturer will be Dr. Michael
Gunson (oral maxillofacial surgeon from Santa Barbara,
California). The following topics will be covered:
" The Face and Occlusion of a Bad Airway: Growth
Restriction, Compensation, and Esthetic Decline " ; " Orthognathic
Causes of Mandibular Condylar Changes " ;
and " Soft Tissue Sleep Apnea: A Reason Why Hard
Tissue Interventions Fail. "
Arizona oral surgeons are going to join us for the annual
meeting. Our annual business meeting will also be held
on December 5, 2022. We have also started conversations
with the Arizona Pediatric Dentistry Association to
coordinate a joint pedo-ortho meeting for our annual
meeting in 2023. Our most recent quarterly meeting was
on September 7, 2022, with all of the board members,
including Dr. Alyssa Levin, the Arizona PCSO director.
The Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (ASDOH)
postgraduate orthodontic program continues to
thrive under the leadership of Dr. Jae Hyun Park and Dr.
Michael Papademetriou and the hard work and dedication
of its talented residents. The first-year residents
started class on July 5, and they have already been stellar
additions to the program. The second-year residents
successfully completed the Tweed course in June.
Under the leadership of Dr. Jason Judd and Dr. Shawn
Bader, the Arizona Study Group (AZSG) will resume
its monthly meetings in September with Dr. Thomas
Shipley on the future of digital customization and
in-office, three-dimensional (3D) orthodontic appliance
printing sponsored by Braces on Demand.
We hope our members had a great time at the combined
PCSO-Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists
(RMSO) Annual Session in San Diego, California. It
was great to have many of you join us for the Arizona
component breakfast while we were there.
