The British Columbia Society of Orthodontists
hosted our first in-person
meeting in three years on September
23. It was great to connect with many
of our members at this event. We are also grateful
for the support of the PCSO and their component
speaker grant that allowed us to bring Dr. Chris Riolo
to Vancouver from Seattle. Dr. Riolo spoke to our
members on " Digital Technology and Contemporary
Adult Orthodontics, " an important and relevant topic
for every orthodontist.
We are awaiting more details from the Canadian federal
government on the recently announced federal
dental plan, which is slated to roll out by the end of
2022. We currently have no information on whether
orthodontic treatment will be included in this public
health plan.

The newly formed California Association
of Orthodontists (CAO) political
action committee took action over
the summer, building on relationships
developed by CAO members with key legislators
during the past two legislative sessions. Attending
select fundraisers gave our legislative committee chair
facetime with critical policy makers to remind them
of CAO priorities, specifically patient safety concerns
related to direct-to-consumer aligner treatment.
The CAO will host a half-day seminar on March 10,
2023, in Sacramento, California, featuring author, international
speaker, and oral and maxillofacial radiology
expert Dr. Dania Tamimi. Her presentation will focus
on " The Mystery of the Changing Bite, " including a
comprehensive radiographic look at how temporomandibular
joint dysfunctions and the airway affect
occlusion.
The process of creating videos to show orthodontic
assisting as a rewarding career is underway. The goal
is to produce a series of videos that can be used to
attract more candidates to the field and to provide
video resources that members can use on digital
platforms when recruiting staff for their practice. The
first videos of the series should be available early in
fall 2022.
The tradition of recognizing graduates from
orthodontic programs around the state continued
this summer. It has been well received
by both residents and CAO members. You can

The Hawaii Society of Orthodontists
(HSO) in partnership with Align Technology
held a continuing education
(CE) day on August 26. Members
from across the state attended the event. Dr. Regina
Blevins spoke on " ClinCheck Pro 3D Controls and
Treating with Invisalign First. " She shared her approach
to achieving successful outcomes and her process
for ensuring an efficient treatment workflow in early
treatment cases. She also spoke on leveraging 3D
controls and the new features available in ClinCheck
Pro 6.0 to make treatment planning more efficient.
The HSO executive board held our annual business
meeting at the end of October. This meeting was
preceded by a half day of CE in collaboration with
uLab Systems.
