opportunities that PCSO continues to provide for
the new and younger members.
My long tenure with PCSO has allowed me the
pleasure of working with three highly talented and
skilled executive directors (EDs). Having a dedicated,
bright, and caring ED makes a huge difference
to one's experience as a volunteer leader. My early
years of experience as a PCSO volunteer was under
the wise guidance and assistance of Phil Rollins,
who got me involved in a variety of roles on the
continuing education committee and several
Annual Session planning committees. Most of my
years on the PCSO Board of Directors and the first
few years on the executive committee were blessed
with the opportunity to work with Jill Nowak
(a past recipient of this award). During my year as
PCSO president, I had the pleasure of working with
our current ED, Callie Castro, whose talent, confidence,
and quick assimilation of our rich culture
allayed all my concerns about working with a new
ED. Callie's continued dedication to the PCSO has
elevated us to new heights, and I greatly appreciate
her valuable assistance to me in my current role
as the PCSO delegation chair. My sincere thanks to
these three EDs, who will be my lifelong friends, for
making my PCSO journey so smooth and fulfilling.
My most sincere gratitude to my team at Berkeley
Orthodontics and Orinda Orthodontics for
allowing the smooth operation of our offices
while my leadership commitments necessitated
many days on the road. I also wish to thank my
study club, the Peninsula Orthodontic Research
Group, for continually supporting my professional
growth through mutual learning and sharing.
The members of this study club, many of whom
have been PCSO leaders and past award recipients,
have always been a guiding light in my
professional career and continue to challenge me
to reach higher grounds to serve our wonderful
specialty. I would also like to acknowledge a list of
other esteemed colleagues who continue to help
me grow as I serve my specialty. This list includes
but is not limited to the current and past CAO
directors, the members of the Angle Society, my
fellow faculty members, and chairs at the USCF
and UOP orthodontic programs, the directors and
examiners of the ABO, the current and past AAO
delegation chairs, the current and past speakers
of the house, the AAO Board of Trustees, and all
the EDs and the supporting cast in the aforementioned
entities. You have all impacted my personal
and professional life immensely.
I am especially grateful to my dear wife, Leila, and our
children, Dara and Kiana. None of this would have
been possible without their love, support, and sacrifice.
Thank you for allowing me the time away from
home on so many occasions to serve my specialty.
Thank you again, PCSO, for this unexpected recognition.
It is truly an honor to serve in this stellar
organization.
2023 PCSO Annual Session Honoree
Dr. Robert E. Meister received his DDS from Loma
Linda University School of Dentistry in 1978.
After a few years of general practice, he returned
to Loma Linda University to specialize in orthodontics.
Since receiving his master's in orthodontics
and facial orthopedics in 1984, he has
maintained practices in Laguna Hills and Rancho
Santa Margarita, California.
Dr. Robert E. Meister

Dr. Meister is a past president of both the CAO
and the PCSO. For eight years, he was a delegate

to the AAO House of Delegates. During his tenure
at PCSO, he served on many committees and task
forces, with a particular focus on member benefits
and association governance. He is committed to
unbiased research and orthodontic advocacy by
proudly supporting the AAO Foundation and AAO
Political Action Committee.
Dr. Meister is also deeply passionate about teaching
and engaged with his alma mater. He is an
associate professor of orthodontics at Loma Linda
