President and Executive Director's Report
The Resident Committee, chaired by Dr. Nehi
Ogbevoen, consists of one resident member
from each PCSO orthodontic residency program.
The group serves as liaisons with their resident
colleagues and provides feedback and insight back
to the PCSO on ways that we can further support
them as resident members. They are helping with
implementation of a graduating resident highlight
for PCSO members.
The Engagement, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Task
Force, chaired by Dr. Nancy Gum, is working to
create awareness of EDI issues within organized
dentistry and the specialty. They provided insight
into a revised mission statement and will be
assisting with talking points to further demonstrate
the purpose, value, and importance of member
engagement and inclusion.
The Orthodontic Staff Critical Issues Task Force,
chaired by Dr. Katie Bales, has worked on revisions
to a staff brochure and letter that will be distributed
to dental assisting schools. The brochures could
also be used by members in their offices and at
high school career fairs.
The Buying Group Critical Issues Task Force,
chaired by Dr. Isaac Tam, looked at options for
creating a PCSO buying group, identified as a
priority of members in the member needs assessment.
It was decided that a better option may be
to partner with an existing buying group due to
the hurdles and time associated with setting up
something new. More to come!
The Internal Marketing/Branding Critical Issues
Task Force, chaired by Dr. Boyd Martin, is looking
at ways to better communicate the PCSO brand
and ensure that PCSO messages are being heard
by the membership. Further research is being
conducted on messaging, platforms, and email
best practices.
In Closing
In a world that often emphasizes individual achievement,
collaboration among your PCSO volunteer
leaders continues to remind us of the transformative
power of coming together. It reminds us that by
joining forces, we can accomplish more, learn more,
and create a positive impact on those around us. So,
as the sun shines brightly and the summer breeze
beckons, let us seek opportunities to connect,
collaborate, and create together.
We really look forward to seeing all of our PCSO
members for the 2023 WOCON Annual Session at
the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, from
November 2-5. The closing celebration will feature
character visits and conclude early enough
