CDM, CFPP
With such varying responsibilities,
Maderia prioritizes schedule-making to
stay organized.
" As a manager, a lot can be added to
your plate during the day, " she said. " It's
important to not get too distracted and
forget important things that have to be
done. "
BRITTNEY MADERIA, CDM,
CFPP is the Dietary Director at
Meadow Wind Health Care Center in
Massillon, Ohio. She has been at the
facility for four months and has been a
CDM, CFPP since 2020.
After working as a restaurant cook for a
few years, Maderia felt that something
was missing, which led her to pursuing
her CDM, CFPP credential.
" I wanted a place where I could have
a group of individuals and connect
with them through food service, " she
said. " Then I learned about becoming a
CDM, CFPP. It was the perfect fit! "
Now as a CDM, CFPP, Maderia
values making a difference in her
residents' lives while also enjoying the
technical knowledge aspect of the job,
especially in the areas of food safety and
sanitation. In her daily responsibilities,
she purchases food and supplies while
staying on budget, supervises food
preparation and service, prepares
schedules, observes infection control
procedures, and more.
Despite her busy schedule, Maderia has
found ways to make innovative changes
that improve the overall quality of food
for her residents. One change she's made
has involved the various purees used in
her facility.
The CDM, CFPPs profiled
here are making a
difference in their facilities
and their profession.
CDM, CFPP Values Knowledge and Teamwork
and trends, " Maderia said. " I love
following food-inspired accounts and
seeing what they create. It can even be
the simplest recipes, and it makes you
question how you didn't think of that
idea yourself. "
Maderia envisions big changes for the
future of food service as well, both on
the technical side and the labor side.
" I envision a lot of new technology
in the foodservice industry in the
next few years, " she said. " This new
technology will make foodservice
operations run even more smoothly and
PERSEVERANCE IS KEY. " This type of work can be very
tiring and stressful at times. Hard work and determination
in this field can provide you with endless possibilities and
benefits. Believing in yourself is the first step. "
" Our puree eggs, when they get placed
in the steam table, I noticed they would
become dry, " she said. " I implemented
change by putting the puree eggs in our
bowls with a lid, then placing them in a
pan in the steam table. The eggs stay at
temperature and are the perfect texture. "
In order to continue making innovative
changes, Maderia prioritizes staying up
to date with trends in the foodservice
industry.
" Social media, such as Instagram, and
the Internet in general, is a great way to
stay up to date with current innovations

more efficiently. I also envision wages
to continue to increase. I believe that
increase will provide more employment
opportunities in food service. "
For those just getting started in the
industry, Maderia emphasizes the
importance of perseverance.
" This type of work can be very tiring
and stressful at times, " she said. " Hard
work and determination in this field can
provide you with endless possibilities
and benefits. Believing in yourself is the
first step! "
