Dr. Butterworth describes
how employers, stakeholders,
and even our allopathic and
osteopathic colleagues are
aware of the standards set forth
by ABFAS.
In fact, in her efforts to expand
the scope of practice in South
Carolina to include the ankle,

a compromise we had to make
with our orthopedic colleagues
to even get the bill sponsored,
because they know about
ABFAS and the requirements.
They know that ABFAS is the
standard in our field... they

On top of this effort to achieve
Board Certification, Dr.
Butterworth was also balancing

reviewer for the final part of the
Board Certification process, Case
Review; she then became involved
in the Didactic Exam Committee,
where she wrote items for the
Residency In-Training Exams and
Board Qualification exams.
Dr. Butterworth describes that
" I wanted to get involved on the
strategic level [at ABFAS], but
at first I was hesitant to join the
board. But when I thought about
it, I figured I had more to offer.
We've got a lot on our plate, but
I am excited about the direction
we are moving, and I think we
are going to achieve a lot of great
things. " Now that she has years
of experience under her belt, Dr.
Butterworth is looking forward

Communications Committee
at ABFAS and continuing her

Beyond just her official

Butterworth has also made
