Life After Medical School: Ten
Ways to Thrive in Residency
By: Katerina Grigoropoulos, DPM, AACFAS, DABPM
1. Commit Yourself-Residency is an Investment
Organizing this event was a four-month-long
process, with support from the CSPM deans and
administration. We are grateful for the support
from Dr. Eric Stamps, Dr. Cherri Choate, Dr.
David Tran, Ms. Debbie Haynes-Muhammad, and
Ms. Jeanie Lau. Also, this event would not have
been possible without outstanding speakers
representing residency programs from across the
country. The entire CSPM student body is
exceptionally grateful for all the speakers who
took time out of their busy schedules to interact
with us and educate us about the residency
journey ahead.

life smoother. Use the time in residency to grow into the
physician you've always envisioned yourself to be.

Like many things in life- what you put in, is what you
get out. Residency is no different. Think of residency as
bootcamp. It is three years dedicated to learning as much
as you can before you practice in the real world. Residency
is an opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them.
You finally get to be more involved with patient care and
more hands on in the operating room. The more you
commit yourself to learning, the more experience you will

Residency will push you both physically and mentally. With
all the challenges residency holds, a sturdy support system
is paramount to your success. No one will understand you
better than your co-residents. Establishing a supportive
and professional relationship with your program members
will enhance your experience to both learn and thrive

Finally, I am thankful to the APMSA for providing a
generous education grant, which transformed this
event from a passion project to an actualized
event that served the CSPM Student Body. It is my
hope that we can continue to transition back to inperson
events such as this one, which would
greatly benefit students and allow us to think
beyond our four years in school.
