Ultimately, the leap to
beginning podiatric medical
school can be a steep one for
any one of us entering our
first year. That leap may vary
in scale between individuals
for social, cultural, or
academic reasons, but
The daily life of a medical
student, while grueling at
times, is full of engaging
and fulfilling opportunities.
Some of Samantha's favorite
days have been " the podiatry
labs - especially injection
lab. It gives a realistic
break from basic science
studying and incorporates
the clinical aspect of our
future. " Summer, the recent
champion of our program's
annual suture-off, reflects
similarly on the enjoyment
of hands-on experience:
" That is also one of my most
memorable memories. My
mom and grandma came
out from Texas to support
me and got to meet my
classmates and the faculty.
It was an experience for
the whole family. " Besides
the great extracurricular
and surgical opportunities
available for us as firstyears,
Summer has enjoyed
" traveling and exploring
with my significant other,
Juan, who is a huge support
we are all unified in the
common pursuit of a career
as a podiatrist. In hearing
more about my classmates'
respective journeys to this
point, I am made more aware
of both the great many
ways that we can come to
that common pursuit and
our shared motivations to
improve the lives of future
patients. Moreover, it is
incredibly enticing to dive
into how that journey, for
each person, has led to their
unique reason for pursuing
this great career. I consider
myself lucky to be part of
this growing community
of providers, and fortunate
to explore deeper into what
motivates each of them. It
therefore gives me hope and
drive for the future of our
profession to know that a
diverse and excited group
of physicians is on its way to
changing patients' lives for
the better.
