The construction of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall, standing 2.0 meters tall, along a coastal
walking/bike path posed a significant challenge due to the presence of poor subgrade soil. The risk of soil

APPLICATION:
The conventional approach involved constructing the MSE wall using steel strip and polymeric straps on the
down slope side of the path. However, this method would require staged construction to manage soil pore
pressure and strength gain in the underlying clay between stages, leading to increased construction time and
costs.
