Comstock Fuels and Emerging Fuels
Technology advance SAF and other
renewable fuel yields
Comstock Fuels has partnered with Emerging
Fuels Technology (EFT) to integrate EFT's
gas-to-liquids (GTL) process into Comstock's
renewable fuel solutions. This collaboration
will convert carbon emissions into " emissions
derived renewable fuels " (EDF), including
sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), enhancing
Comstock's renewable fuel yields. The integration
could increase biomass conversion yields to
over 140 gallons per dry ton, reducing carbon
intensities. This partnership aims to decarbonize
global mobility by producing low-carbon,
cost-competitive fuels. Source: Hydrocarbon

Distillation of a mixture containing CO2,
CH4 and H2
A method for separating a mixture of hydrogen
(H2), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2)
using distillation produces three streams: a H2rich
overhead, a CH4-rich intermediate, and a
CO2-rich bottoms stream. The CH4-rich stream
can be recycled to the steam methane reforming
(SMR) process, improving hydrocarbon utilization
and product yield. In ammonia synthesis, H2
and nitrogen (N2) are separated for efficient use.
The method addresses challenges in ammonia
production, such as reducing hydrocarbon
slip and removing CO2 to protect catalysts.
Thermodynamic analysis shows that adjusting
pressure and temperature prevents CO2 freezeout,
with the presence of H2 further enhancing
separation efficiency. Source: Hydrocarbon

Aarhus University researchers convert CO2
from flue gas into solid matter
Aarhus University researchers in Denmark have
developed a technology using microorganisms to
directly convert CO2 from flue gas into valuable
products like methane and acetic acid. Unlike
traditional carbon capture, which stores CO2,

this method recycles it into usable materials,
reducing costs. The technology operates at lower
temperatures Type equation here.and avoids
expensive heating processes. While carbon
capture is still limited, this approach could make
it more viable for industries, though challenges
like the need for hydrogen remain. It supports the
green transition but doesn't replace renewable
energy. Source: The Digest, 1/09/2025
Avina Clean Hydrogen completes FEED for
clean ammonia facility
Avina Clean Hydrogen has completed the FrontEnd
Engineering Design (FEED) for its 2,200 metric
tons per day clean ammonia facility in Texas, set
to begin operations in 2028. The plant will produce
800,000 metric tons of ammonia annually using
blue and electrolytic hydrogen. Supported by KBR,
Larsen & Toubro, and EXCEL, the facility will meet
global clean fuel demand, benefit from existing
infrastructure, and produce low-carbon ammonia
certified for European markets. Source: Digital

TotalEnergies launches construction of an
early gas treatment unit to stop flaring and
supply power plants
TotalEnergies, in partnership with Basra Oil and
QatarEnergy, has launched the construction of
the ArtawiGas25 gas treatment unit in Basra,
Iraq, as part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project
(GGIP). The facility, with an investment of USD 250
million, will process 50M cubic feet of gas per day
previously flared, supplying power to 200,000
households. The project, set to begin operations
in late 2025, is part of a USD 10 billion initiative to
improve Iraq's energy supply, reduce flaring, and
create up to 160 jobs during construction. Source:
