FOR WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY 2024 WE CALL FOR PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TO END THE STEREOTYPES On March 21st, the Cobb PARKS therapeutic recreation program recognized the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome that leads to Down syndrome. World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed globally on March 21st, recognized by the United Nations since 2012. Every individual is unique, including those with Down syndrome or intellectual disabilities, each with their distinct identity, interests, preferences, strengths, and talents, just like anyone else. Down syndrome or intellectual disability is just one aspect of their overall identity. Watch this video to learn about stereotypes and why they stop us from living the lives we want to live. This video was planned and recorded by members of the Down Syndrome International network.
