This article presented application examples of the
ParticleScout software tool, which enables automated
microparticle analysis and uses Raman spectroscopy
for the non-destructive identification of
the particles. Three examples illustrated the utility
of this approach for applications in pharmaceutical
product development and cosmetics.
The composition of a cosmetic peeling cream was
analyzed in detail, revealing the identity and size
distribution of the contained particles. Thousands
of particles in a powdered form of an anti-pain anti-fever
medication were located, categorized and
chemically identified through rapid, automated routines.
By combining ParticleScout with topographic
measurements, even components across the surface
of a whole tablet could be investigated.
