North Orange Continuing
Education Emeritus Program
New views on aging are about empowerment-
encouraging people to embrace their age, live
authentically, and continue growing, learning, and
contributing in ways that are meaningful to them
(Van Regenmortel & De Witte, 2023). The North
Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) Emeritus
Program celebrates the diverse and unique ways in
which individuals experience aging. Rather than
adhering to societal expectations or stereotypes
about what growing older should look like, lifelong
learning helps people explore and embrace their
later years with individuality, creativity, and
resilience (Wong et. al., 2023).
NOCE Emeritus Program faculty highlight
stories of those who are redefining aging by
pursuing passions, maintaining active lifestyles,
contributing to their communities, and finding
new purposes.
Join NOCE's Emeritus Program and explore
classes across four disciplines: Body and Mind,
Communication, Creative Arts, and Music Arts!
Personal Narratives: Creative Writing and
Books Come Alive classes empower adults to
explore personal narratives by featuring profiles
of individuals who have found new meaning
in life as they age, whether through careers,
hobbies, or personal growth. Student stories
serve as inspiration, showing that life after a
certain age can be just as vibrant and fulfilling
as earlier years.
Breaking Stereotypes: Mobile Information
Literacy and Staying Mentally Sharp for Older
Adults classes challenge the traditional views
of aging by introducing students to new
technologies for brain power, independence,
and connection in a growing global society.
Instructors lead discussions on the benefits
of different types of exercises for the brain,

longevity research, and the potential for living
longer, healthier lives using technology.
Health and Wellness: Courses address
the physical and mental aspects of aging, with
a focus on maintaining health and vitality.
Faculty teach yoga, Zumba, cardio, strength and
conditioning, nutrition, and self-care practices
that support aging healthy, gracefully and
energetically.
Social Connections: Senior Topics, Journey
Back into Time, and History of Comedy and
Humor classes explore diverse topics such as the
influence of comedy in society, the importance of
relationships between different generations, and
how these connections can enrich the lives of both
the young and the mature, to family traditions,
and the exchange of knowledge and experience.
Creative Expression: Creativity evolves with
age. Classes provide a space for older adults to
use art, music, painting, ceramics, and other
forms of creative expression to tell their stories,
explore their identities, and connect with others.

*Although NOCE Emeritus Program classes are
designed for ages 50+, all classes are open to
