CELEBRATING
Black History Month
The Dartmouth Health
community celebrates Black
history, culture and community
in the month of February and
throughout the year. Teresa Dean
Malcolm, MD, FACOG, system vice
president of Diversity, Equity,
Inclusion and Belonging shared
a message on February 5 to all
Dartmouth Health employees.
" Black history is not just a thing that happened
yesterday, " Malcolm said. " It is an ongoing process
of remembering the struggles and triumphs that
have shaped the African American experience
and acknowledging the courageous pioneers who
paved the way for civil rights in this country. I am
indebted to the trailblazers who made significant
contributions to the fields of medicine, science
and healthcare. From the men and women who
were the first to knock down doors, to those who

were inventors and had a hand in many of the
things we take for granted today. Their impact
is immeasurable; they raised the bar of inclusive
excellence. "
She also acknowledged the ongoing need to
address disparities in healthcare, and called on
employees to use the month-long observance to
celebrate the achievements of the past and also
to deepen understanding of the challenges for
advancing health equity in the future.
Community Impact Social Justice Awards nominations now open
The second annual Community Impact Social Justice
Awards will be presented on April 27 to honor recipients
in three categories: Youth Award (under 24 years old),
Dartmouth Health Employee Award, and Community
Member Award. Please consider nominating a colleague
or community member who is actively engaged in social
justice action and works to empower marginalized people
and communities. A nomination form and information
