Cheshire Medical earns accreditation
for Family Medicine Residency program
Cheshire
Medical Center reached
a milestone in its work to launch
a new Family Medicine Residency
program. It received accreditation for
the program from the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical
Education's (ACGME) Residency
Review Committee on February 1,
2023. With the program set to launch
in the summer of 2024, recruitment
will begin this summer.
Three years after first COVID-19 case
in New Hampshire, effects of
pandemic still being felt
On March 2, 2020, an employee at
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center
contracted COVID-19. One week later,
everything changed, with students
and many workers sent home in an
effort to slow the spread of the virus.
Health experts now say COVID-19 isn't
going away, but a lot has been learned
about how to control the spread and
limit the severity of the disease.
Hospital execs: Facing
unprecedented challenges, ask for
consumer patience
On the third anniversary of COVID19's
arrival in New Hampshire, Susan
Reeves, executive vice president at the
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center,
joined other leaders from among the
state's 31 hospitals in urging policymakers
to help them address an unprecedented
workforce shortage, inadequate bed
capacity and other challenges.
Editorial: NH woeful at addressing
mental illness
It's not exactly a secret that New
Hampshire state government has
historically seized any opportunity to
shirk costly responsibilities. It's hardly
shocking, then, that 15 not-for-profit,
acute-care New Hampshire hospitals-
including Mary Hitchcock, Alice Peck
Day, New London and Valley Regional-
filed a complaint in Merrimack County
Superior Court arguing that the state
Department of Health and Human
Services is failing to fulfill its duties
to people who by reason of mental
illness are found likely to pose a threat
of imminent harm to themselves and/
or others, and thus are subject to
involuntary emergency admission to
the mental health system.
Vermont organizations celebrate
Recovery Day as residents discuss
substance abuse disorder
The state of Vermont recognized
Recovery Day on Wednesday,
celebrating all of the hard work that
goes into recovery from substance
use disorder. " I've heard in some of
the meetings that I've been in that
people were here, and they're still alive
because they got help when they
absolutely needed it, " said Rick Marasa,
medical director of emergency
services, Mt. Ascutney Hospital.
Marasa said that timing is incredibly
important.
The hospital CEOs throwing their
weight behind gun safety efforts
In the wake of shootings across the
U.S., about 50 leaders of some of the
nation's largest health systems and
hospitals, including Joanne Conroy,
president and CEO of Dartmouth Health,
are pledging efforts to address gun
violence. The leaders are members
of the newly formed National Health
Care CEO Council on Gun Violence
Prevention & Safety, which is united to
tackle the issue. Their efforts include
supporting public education and
awareness campaigns, working with
local violence intervention groups and
pursuing research.
