Kasz Leavitt
P.Tech.(Eng.)
Kasz Leavitt obtained his civil engineering technology diploma
from Lethbridge College in 2009. As soon as he graduated,
he started working at MPE Engineering as a materials
testing technologist. He's spent the last 13 years at MPE,
and now operates as laboratory manager. In the materials
testing department, he performs different tests, ranging
from concrete testing, to asphalt testing, to soil testing.
In addition to his lab manager position, Kasz serves as radiation
safety officer. His duties there revolve around ensuring
safety standards are met, and that MPE's nuclear energy
workers are trained properly. He is also responsible for arranging
and ensuring lab certification for his team.
In addition to his MPE career, Kasz has quite literally set the
foundation for roadwork across Alberta. He's been involved
in operations of paving, waste way, and concrete reservicing
projects, where he tested building materials integrity to
ensure industry specifications were met.
Kasz has served on Council before. During that time he sat
on the governance committee, over a two-year stretch. He's
also previously served on Technology Accreditation Canada's
Governance and Audit Council, where he helped provide
second-level reviews to polytechnics across Alberta.
If elected to Council once more, Kasz would like to apply the
lessons of the past few years towards creating a fortified
future for technologists and technicians.
" Over the past few years, life has brought us some new challenges
with work and personal life. We need to be adaptive
to the ever-changing world, " he says. " Since the start of the
pandemic, we have learned so much and continue to grow
as a workforce and an association. We have the past to look
back on and see what we have come from and what we have
learned in our careers, communities and personal life. "
According to Kasz, " as we move forward, we need to continue
to strive for excellence, learn from our past and celebrate
our successes. It was an honour to be nominated this
year. If elected I would like to help bring ASET to where the
members want the association to be and where it should be
for the people of tomorrow. "
An important consideration to Kasz is the rise of remote
work arrangements, and how those will affect personal connection
and career development.
" It is important to provide ways for these members to have
avenues to maintain their CPD and feel connected. I want to
be able to provide support to them by providing webinars
or presentations to further their professional development, "
he says.
" I want to be able to reach out to our members on a personal
level, and to provide outlets for members to connect. With
your support, I would be honoured to have the opportunity
to serve on Council. "
