Message from
the President

AS I APPROACH THE COMPLETION of my term as
ASET president, it surprises me how fast this past year
has gone by. Perhaps the reason is all the activity this year
brought us. Or it could be the drive of Council and ASET staff
to push ever forward, onto the next endeavour to power up
this association so we can continue to improve our service.
The polls for the 2024 ASET Council Election will be opening
soon, allowing you to vote for ASET members who show
passion, dedication and the skills necessary to govern the
profession. You can find out about the candidates for your
next Council in these pages. Read on to learn who's in the
running this year, their qualifications, and their greater aims
for the association and the profession. I want to thank every
member who put their name forward, and the nominations
committee for their work on presenting this year's slate of
nominees. Polls for this year's election are open from 21
March to 16 April 2024. Your new Council will be announced
at the 2024 Annual General Meeting.
Regarding the AGM, I'm eager to connect with those of you
who can attend. This year's event will take us back into the
mountains of Banff, at the Fairmont Banff Springs from 1920
April. As with prior years, you can look forward to celebrating
our achievements, and strengthening our bonds to
prepare for what still needs to be accomplished.
ASET continues to work with the Government of Alberta on
the passing of the Professional Governance Act. As your
representative body, we're emphasizing that not only should
the legislation be passed, but it should be passed in the
right way. That means making it inarguably clear what a professional
technologist is and what they can do. As I transition
to past president of ASET, I'll do my utmost to guide the
new Council in the continuation of those efforts.
I'll leave off this message with a reflection on the great events
ASET's Programs and Services department have held, and
those planned for the near future. The association has recently
held successful volunteer appreciation events, webinars,
student STEM camps, and been present at trade shows,
education conferences and other external events across the
province. We strive to build a strong community of stakeholders,
with annual events like our golf tournament. ASET can't
spread the message of the importance of professional, safe
practice if its people aren't out in the field, shaking hands with
the technology professionals who serve Alberta.
Thank you for trusting me to serve
as your president. Like most former
presidents, I'll continue serving and
advocating for the association because
my belief in this profession doesn't
end with my term. It carries on, like
the ASET mission, and I look forward
to our continued growth together.
