LiteZone® uses a thicker insulating glass unit assembly
to achieve much higher insulating values. "Windows with
insulating values in the desired R12 to R17 range can only
be achieved economically with glass units that use multiple
layers and are thicker than standard insulating glass units,"
Clarahan says. "The thickness of a LiteZone® glass unit
allows it to be incorporated into a window frame that has
an extremely large thermal break, thereby creating a large
insulation zone which is necessary for a window to achieve
overall very high insulating values."

Each of the 13 LiteZone® product groups is distinguished
by multiple unique features: the number of polyester film
layers (one to eight films) suspended between two panes
of glass, the size of the gaps between each layer and the
overall glass unit thickness (1.75" to 7.5" thick using 6mm
glass panes or "lites").
The first LiteZone® glass units were manufactured in the
company's small prototyping facility in Nisku in 2015.
These units were installed in buildings across Canada.
"All these first installations have been highly successfully
and were excellent demonstrations of LiteZone®,"
Clarahan says. In 2016, LiteZone® won the Canadian
Green Building Council's "Green Building Product of
the Year Award". In 2019 the company commissioned a
20,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Edmonton
and began commercial production of LiteZone® last
November.
Performance within each product group then varies
depending on the number and type of low-e, or lowemissivity, coats used. The maximum insulating value
achieved for each product group ranges from R5.7 to R17.0
following NFRC measures, for an overall window with an
R6.5 to R19.6 centre of glass. (The "R" stands for resistance
to heat flow.) Windows using LiteZone® insulating glass can
achieve insulating values up to 2.5 times better than high
performing triple pane windows.

The company is currently supplying their IGUs for
installation in buildings across Canada and in the
United States. They've been ramping up their sales
and marketing effort, and expect to achieve rapid sales
growth in the near future. This expansion will come about
as designers, developers, building owners and others
involved in energy efficient building construction become
aware of LiteZone®.
