INDUSTRYROUNDUP A helping hand Ontario farmers and industry supporters gather at harvest gala to help less fortunate M ore than 250 Ontario farmers and industry supporters came together at the inaugural Harvest Gala in Guelph to further support Ontario’s 120 food banks. Six agricultural programs, including Dairy Farmers of Ontario’s food bank donation program, were recognized for assisting the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB) feed the 320,000 people who visit a food bank each month in the province. “There’s a food bank in every city, town and village across this province that will benefit because of what Ontario’s farmers are doing,” said OAFB executive director Adam Spence. “This is more than just a good news story and it shows that no matter how tough times are, farmers are there for those who are truly in need.” DFO board members Ian Harrop, with wife Janet, and David Murray (right) pose with OAFB executive director Adam Spence at the 2008 Harvest gala.
