Facebook application reaches out to teens From farm to table mobile experience M aple the Cow, the fibreglass bovine featured in a hands-on program, was started by the Durham dairy producer committee to educate children about milk and the dairy industry. ntario and Maritime teens on Facebook can now turn their posts into songs. Launched in early July, Udder Tunes is a Facebook application that aims to make milk relevant in teens’ lives and encourage consumption. It lets users transform their Facebook posts into songs by choosing a voice and a tune, each one representing a milk benefit. Every time O a teen uses the application, a notice is posted in their friends’ newsfeed. The friend can then listen to the Udder Tune. MTV and MuchMusic television hosts are promoting the application during short videos on their websites. While applications that transform text into voice have existed for a few years, this is one of the first applications to transform text into songs. Now run by DFC, the newly rebranded program will be closely linked with its 100% Canadian Milk initiative. The cow provides a fun way for families to learn about milk and dairy farming. Throughout the year, DFC will use the cow to communicate the dairy industry’s value and provide industry-related information through displays at county fairs, exhibitions and schools.
